JOAN MIRO

Joan Miro (1893-1983) was a Spanish sculptor, painter and ceramicist. His paintings are seen to be about surrealism. His paintings include abstract elements in them, but sometimes looking at the full image closely you can see the images he was creating. The colours he uses in his works are very bold. He uses shapes and lines, which in some of his paintings feel like they are floating around the canvas. This leads the eye around the canvas and allows you to see each part of the painting. His works at first glance seem simple, however most have a symbolic meaning behind them. Some of his paintings are very imaginative and his thoughts and dreams are able to be seen through the paintings. The placement of the shapes and lines and the choice of colours in his work seem to be an important, well thought through part of his paintings.
