Frank Nitsche is a German painter. He paints large abstract pieces. He works from photographs which he abstracts, focusing on shapes and lines and in the end having little resemblance to the original photos. This is a similar approach to my own way of working. The colour palette in his paintings sometimes have quite a pastel tone and soft colour, helping the black outlines stand out around the shapes. The use of bold, black outlines sharpen the shapes and add depth to the paintings. The paintings show the layered paint and shapes and his method of stripping back layers. This reveals previous paint and marks underneath. His work is abstract but still shows elements of architecture. There are parts where many lines overlap which makes sections of the canvas more overworked than others.
