HANNAH HEWETSON

Updated: Jan 11, 2018

Hannah Hewetson’s work reveals the method she uses to create her paintings by layering paint and stencilled marks, then sanded them down. Her paintings are very much to do with showing the process of how she has come to make the final outcome. The works show the battle between restriction and expression. Her paintings have a good balance of busy and calm compositions. The brush marks are very prominent in her paintings, which is an important part of her work. Her work involves selecting and erasing elements which can be seen in finished pieces. The purpose of this is to make some parts of the paintings look unresolved and other parts show the building up of layers. The gestural marks in her paintings make her work very playful and expressive.. The use of vibrant, pale and dark colours in her paintings, create an illusion of movement as there are different tones and shades flowing throughout.
