Shaun space crit - Beatrice Thompson

Writer: Loren CarrLoren Carr

•Beatrice Thompson’s Shaun Space Crit, started out with playing a video. One of the ways she had been experimenting in her project was through digital making. She played the video twice, once with music and once without, to see how it changes the effect and mood of the video. She shared a painting that she had created, inspired by Lisa Moore. The painting contained text and textured materials giving the painting some depth. And the texture helped cover some of the letters in the works, linking to hidden feelings and meanings in her works context. The group talked about how Bea could experiment using more materials, so her work could move forward. She also presented another painting, this one being a figurative painting. We talked about the physicality of the painting looking at the size and the colours and the detail of the painting. Both of her paintings are black and white. The group suggested experimenting with the scale of her paintings and how it would change her work. The ideas behind Bea’s work are very strong and well thought through, and using some of these suggestions will help her find the direction she would like to take.
