•Rasheed Araeen’s ‘A Retrospective’ exhibition is at Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art. Rasheed Araeen’s exhibition presents an outlook on the whole of his career and life. The exhibition starts out at the start of his career, with paintings of landscapes, portraits, and abstract paintings, also wired sculptures. The next part of the exhibition has abstract, geometric sculptures. The painted structures show Araeen’s engineer training before his art career. It then leads on to more of his political work in the middle of his career. The final part of the exhibition shows Araeen’s most recent works. These are abstract paintings, more specifically geometric shapes and patterns. There are also geometric wall structures. The exhibition consists of a number of pieces, giving the audience a lot to look at. His works has themes of minimalism and abstraction. Colour clearly is important in his work as the exhibition is filled with colourful pieces.
