Fine Art in Society - Artist talk reflection

•MILK is an art collective ran by a group of friends who are fine art graduates from Newcastle University. It is based in Newcastle upon Tyne and some of the reasons for that is because of the cheap studios spaces, lots of artists and an art community, however there are some downfalls to this as it is a small scene compared to other cities and many times collector based. Nevertheless, MILK have also worked outside the North East. They have created exhibitions in empty shops, galleries, and have been involved in art fairs. MILK create their own artwork but also work with other artists. The reason for MILK is that they all wanted to keep creating art and being in the art world after finishing university, they even created a gallery space in the front room of their rented home. They’re aim is producing a platform for emerging artists while continuing their own work practice.
