Collaging shapes development

These are my experiments with collage, shapes and paper . While creating these I thought about using new coloured paper and combining it with older collages that I had already created. The cut out circle collages show the contrast in colour and let the colours and paper from underneath show through. I placed the old collage of my softer shapes onto bright, bold, coloured paper. First with a pink sheet, which gave the collage a different tone and effect. Second with the blue sheet, which contrasted well. I like using colours which are opposite to each other, like the oranges and blues as I feel it helps the shapes stand out. The continuous shapes and layers of shapes and colour continue to interest me. Throughout my experimentation with collage, the artist that has been most influential to me is Matisse. Reading about the collages he created and how he created them in his later years has been a real interest and help in creating my own artwork.
