•Agnes Martin was an abstract painter, her work was considered minimalist but Martin described herself as an abstract expressionist. Her work consisted of grid lines and compositions of symmetry. The colours in her paintings were very restrained. The colours are quite muted which makes the audience pay close attention to the paintings. All of these elements made her paintings quite meditative. These later works of hers, at the MOMA in New York, show the delicate horizontal shapes and free hand paintings that create stillness. The horizontal lines in these paintings feel continuous and calming all at once.
