Bernard Frize is interested in the act of painting itself. His paintings show many different colours within them and show the marks that were made to create them. For example, their large brushstrokes, brushing the paint from one side of the canvas to the other. He experiments with different aspects of the paint like in one painting he peeled off the dried paint ring from the paint pot and used the wet paint from underneath as a glue to stick them onto his canvas. Even though Frize’s interested is in the process of painting, the final piece leaves the audience with only the paint, colour and light.
